During 1884, John A. Bud Hillerich was watching a game where Pete Browning, the legendary Louisville Eclipse player, broke his bat while in the match. Hillerich worked with his father in a woodworking shop and knew a thing or two about Baseball. He had made bats before for his friends who played beside him locally.

Hillerich crafted a bat for Browning which he used the next day, hitting some super shots with it. Browning gained the name of ‘Louisville Slugger’ after he kept hitting master shots with the same bat. Hillerich used the same name for his bats, and it became popular among the local players.

After that, Hillerich proceeded on to produce more bats for Baseball players, and in the year 1894, he registered his company officially. The name & fame of the Louisville Slugger bats rose drastically in 1905. It was when Hillerich made its first contract with Honus Wagner to use his name on the bats they make. These types of deal are popular till this day in many different fields related to sports.

After Frank Bradsby joined the company as a partner whose primary role was to oversee the marketing side, it was named as Hillerich & Bradsby Co. The Hillerich & Bradsby dominate the market of wooden & aluminium bats with countless players using their product from years. This company, Hillerich & Bradsby, has constructed the most giant Baseball bat, which leans against the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory boasting of its legacy.

Their main office is situated in Louisville which also hosts the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. This is the museum whose building holds the most giant Baseball bat that appears to be leaning on its wall. The bat is approximately 6 storeys tall and has a prestigious touch to it.

The museum itself is a place filled with nostalgia, showcasing phases of development the game has made in past decades. It has been termed as one of the ‘greatest sports museums’ in the world by Forbes. It has a large wooden signature wall which has the signature of all the players who had a contract with Hillerich & Bradsby Company. The factory inside the building produces around 3,000 bats daily. They provide a factory tour program on all days where you can visit and observe the core process of bat-making through different steps. You will be shown a basic short documentary of how they fetch the raw materials, mainly wood from their own forests. Then the wood is brought to their factories for processing and shaping it to a bat which then goes through numerous complex processes before going into the hands of a professional or amateur player.

The Louisville Slugger is a heritage in the world of Baseball. Hence, they made the world’s most giant bat showcasing the preciousness their company holds. If you are a true baseball fan, you must visit this monument. You can get all the related information and book tickets via their website.
